Recently STOWA (Foundation for Applied Water Research) has published a report called ‘Phosphate recovery in communal waste water treatment plants’. It describes multiple techniques and processes to recover phosphates from waste water. The recovery of nutrients, and phosphorus in particular, can contribute to a sustainable waste water chain. This involves processes both at the sewage treatment plant and the sludge incinerator.
Sludge incineration
SNB has given high priority to phosphate recovery. After STOWA’s research, the organization carried on investigating all the opportunities.
In January 2012 SNB decides on a new strategy for the recovery of phosphates
One of the techniques investigated by SNB, involves cooperation with Ecophos. In January 2012 SNB will take a final decision on the type of technology that will be applied.
SNB took part in the advisory board of the STOWAresearch. The business case SNB – Thermphos was one of the investigated subjects.
